One day Ollie decides he has had enough. He does not want to be the only elephant without a trunk. Together with his friend he sets off on an adventure. Will he find his trunk? Or perhaps something more important?

A kind and loving storing about a special elephant that discovers he is beautiful the way he is. For children aged 4 and above who like to take a look in the mirror from time to time.

'Beautiful the way you are'

Accepting yourself as you are is easier said than done. Especially if you grow up in a society where a perfect appearance is often the norm.

Parents want nothing more than to make it clear to their children that what distinguishes them in appearance is also what makes them beautiful and unique. Because the development of self-image starts at an early age, it is important that children are made aware of this at an early age.

To respond to this need and to inspire the next generation from my own experience of growing up with a birth defect in the form of a cleft lip, I created the picture book 'BEAUTIFUL THE WAY YOU ARE' as my graduation project at the Styling and Design Academy Artemis in Amsterdam.

A colorful children's book with an endearing and unique elephant in the lead role that makes the subject of 'self-acceptance' open to discussion between parents and children in an innovative way.

About the author

My name is Paula van de Kamp, author and illustrator of the book 'Beautiful the way you are'. As a graduate Stylist and Designer I am mainly involved in Graphic design, illustrating and photography.

From an early age I have been fascinated by everything that has to do with drawing, crafts and being creative! That is why the choice for a creative education after obtaining my high school diploma was not a big surprise for many.

In combination with my passion for travelling, photography and writing, I will be pursuing my dreams for the foreseeable future, volunteering in Guatemala and selling my book.
